Loading Sand Trucks
- Verify correct sand type and weight with truck scaler and driver
- Properly place transloader deck under railcar gate
- Spot and align sand truck under transloader spout
- Run transloader at proper belt speed and belt weight
- Open railcar gate using ratchet, cheater pipe, and propane torch (if needed in winter)
- Verify sand is loading on trailer and no sand is spilling
- Stop loading when at proper weight, or at driver’s signal
- Take two sand samples for every railcar, one sample given to drivers, one for Bakken Transload (discard any sand samples older than one week)
- Keep in communication with scaler via radio status of filled trucks; any split loads with new railcar number. Wearing and have radios turned on at all times.
Transloader Maintenance
- Check and maintain proper fuel, engine and hydraulic oil levels (daily)
- Grease transloader fittings (daily)
- Calibrate digital scale as needed
- Change engine oil and filter every 250 engine hours
- Change fuel filters as needed (every 3-4 months)
- Change hydraulic oil filter as needed (every 5-6 months)
- Change air filter as needed (every 5-6 months)
- Maintain proper belt tension as needed
- Replace old or broken belt as needed
Movement and Placement of Railcars
- Update railcar list on spur…noting sand type, position, and if railcar is full, empty, or partially full/empty (daily)
- Assist locomotive driver by hooking up cars to loco; spotting crossings for traffic; breaking off or adding cars to be pulled by the locomotive; throwing railroad switches in correct position; applying hand brakes to railcars, and “bombing” railcars to engage railcar cylinder brakes.
- Maintain communication with locomotive driver, and others helping move cars, status of railcar air/brake lines, hand brakes; and when it is safe to move, detach, attach, railcars and/or locomotive
Snow Removal
- Ensure that sand trucks, Bakken Transload vehicles, and transloaders have reasonable access to roads, load lines, and railcars by removing snow with plow truck, Ford Tractor snow blower, or Bobcat front-end loader. (as needed in winter)
Rail and Switch Maintenance
- Remove any excess ice/snow/debris from rail or switches
Site Work and Blowing off Sand
- Haul transloader to site and transfer excess sand off movers back onto sand trucks. In addition, if needed, also transferring excess sand off trucks back into railcars
Locomotive
- Drive locomotive at proper speed
- Ensure batteries maintain proper voltage and fluids are at proper levels
- Double check with ground crew that all switches are in proper position
Miscellaneous Duties
- Maintenance and up keep of Bakken Transload’s Property
- Ensure all oil and fuel levels of vehicles are at proper level (daily)
- Any property/equipment improvement: for example, garbage clean-up, interior painting, installing air conditioners, installing signs, posts, and wind socks
Safety
- Ensure that you and others around you are use appropriate safe work practices and equipment
